Ben-Mayor and his fam- ily are all Sabras. His par- ents came to Israel from Bulgaria, but the ancestral background is Majorcan, and therefrom stems the Mayor portion of the family name. A graduate of the Techn- ion, Ben-Mayor's engineer- ing experiences and con- sequent industrial adminis- trative skills enabled him to mobilize the cooperation that is being provided for the Urdan projects. His reactions to life in this country and with an identification with the American Jewish commu- nity, Ben-Mayor said there is need for deeper interest by Israelis in the realism of American Jewish devo- tions. He said that just as American Jews should be fully aware of Israeli atti- tudes, the role played by Jews in this country is "so thrillingly positive" that Is- rael can be justly proud of the type of friendship evi- dent in the United States. He said that the Ameri- can Jewish experience led him and his family to the synagogue — a greater dedication than even in Is- rael. With his admiration for the generosity of Ameri- can Jews, Ben-Mayor added that the one-ness of people- hood has thus been shown in the U.S. Jewish and Israel cooperative friendship. The trees so abundant in Their raiment, Slowly shedding their summer, Clothes; With wide, outstretched arms, Bowed their heads in unison In endless time To the oncoming winds of fall. And, fall they did.— their Magnificent colors slowly changing Into the heralded sunshine °' Days, To light up their source From whence they sprung, A cycle of lively living. Eternal, As they removed around Mother Earth; To give it warmth and growth, For all the leaves to expand, Resplendent in all their colorful Glory, Then returning to gentle And nourish their ever-loving Mother Earth. I watched this leaf, alone, Drifting silently to the ground. Fall silently at my feet. , Was this just fate in Full'expression, Fulfilling nature's native plan. To toss this lonesome, living Figment of life; .3w01. as!..5011 • 73V Thrown and blown by The unfriendly winds To wanton, broken shapes To utter abandonment. Will it die an ignominious death; Alone, forlorn, betrayed, Without a solemn outcry Toward its fellow leaf. I walked along in nature's Glorious garden As the ravenous beauty Of the scene Came until me in full meaning. - A leaf slightly larger than Its comrades Settled magnanimously upon My head. I stopped in mid-pace, as if By signal. Was this an omen of Mother Nature's plan, To enter me into the life Of external living things? Was this a well thought-out Scheme of preserving life, To cover and protect the earth And all that dwelled within? And then, a puff of wind -- My crowning leaf once more Blew away-to join its fellows, All coming together, As if by pre-planned motive To form a soft, warming blanket - To cover and protect Mother Earth below. isril*lo-otii • % ,0 0 when paid in advance SUTTON PLACE DRYCLEANER 23119 Lahser at .9 Mile Coupon good thru 9/21/84 COUPON We Will Beat Your Best Price Bi-FOLD SUPER SPECIAL Existing Doors 4 ft. openings 5 ft. openings 6 ft. openings $123.99 Installed $128.99 Installed $145.99 Installed NEW MIRRORED BI-FOLD DOORS—FINEST QUALITY Slim Foldv) 4 ft. openings $190.00 Installed $200.00 Installed 5 ft. openings $250.00 Installed 6 ft. openings Lowest Prices On All Types of Mirrored Walls, Furniture, Bars, Cubes, Etc. "Nevertheless," he said, - "it is evident that invest- ment in Israeli industries, encouragement of business relations between the two nations, participation in Is- rael's progressive enterprises, can assist in solving Israel's most press- ing economic needs more ef- fectively than the gener- ously contributed dollars." His conviction stems from the multi-million projects already pursue and the ac- complishments already to the credit of Urdan Indus- tries and its associated in- dustries. In 1981 sales ex- ceeded $50 million. Ben-Mayor stated, as a farewell message, that prominent Detroit indus- trialists already are Friday, Atigust 31, 1984 To warm her ever-giving Soul, So that, in proper cycle, Seasons would come forth In all their glory, To put forth its sheltering Leaves, Once again, in endless time. Spellbound, I watched my leaf— First, joining its comrades, Then lifted high into the Sky To flutter high above The mountain top, Floating swiftly down Into the valley below. Was this, then, an omen — as in life, For the leaf to start A new nidus? A challenge to the future; To form its own separate Colony, A plan of life — for life? Was this my life — a,mere Leaf in nature's plan To be blown about at nature's First whim to unknown areas Of dire consequences? Or, Was this plan from above planned out, drawn with Specific purpose, To carry out meaningful Important roles in life; Primarily with love and consideration Toward the hearts of this, His fellow man? ADDENDUM: Our lives can often be compared to nature's plan for the leaves that blow in the wind. I tried, in my own reasoning way, to theorize — Is there a definite plan here, or is it a haphazard, come-what-may event, unplanned, unguided at the whims and mercies of all-knowing Mother Nature? Although I wrote this poem strictly from a nature-loving approach, I began to realize that I had unknowingly let my subconscious break through my conscious as it applied to the land of my people, Israel. So much of the poem could be applied to the history of Israel, as "A withering, battered, lonesome leaf;" "Thrown and blown by unfriendly winds (Israel's neighbors);" "Will it die an ignominious death, alone, forlorn, betrayed (God forbid!)" "A challenge to the future to form its own colony, to carry out meaningful, important roles in life." I guess it wasjust another way of expressing my subconscious love of Israel. • Psr.r.irdr, ...rwruf.ineraro...mlwoarelarassWieftwarotitiestownorerarwar om'e rnmornus.. . -141RatMe4 i4
