Addressing the 11th graduating class of officers and senior civil servants from the National Defense College ? Arens said the media distortions were making it more difficult to wage the war in Lebanon. He said that the college graduates certainly knew that there could be no com- parison between the U.S. and the Vietnam war, and Israel and the war in Leba- • non. Vietnam was thousands of miles away 'from America's shores and withdrawal was possible, but only a borderline sepa- rated Israel from Lebanon, the defense minister said. Arens said he had been misquoted on a number of occasions and journalists had continued writing un- truths even- -after army spokesmen had corrected their statements. In response, the military correspondents' section of the Israel Journalists Asso- ciation criticized Arens for utilizing the forum of the college, usually used for philosophical discussions at graduating exercises, to at- tack the press. Arens hinted that steps, similar to those taken by the U.S. in Grenada and by Britain in the Falklands campaign, may be taken to circumscribe journalists' freedom to report from Lebanon and interview troops there Brooklyn center hit by vandals New York (JTA) — A rabbi who serves as spokesman for a Lubavitch synagogue-community cen- ter in Brooklyn said cast Monday that vandals broke in the night before for the second time in two weeks and caused "many thousands of dollars" in damage to the.structure and its equipment. Rabbi Joseph Rosenfeld said that the more than 40- year-old Israel Leventhal Synagogue had been sold to the Lubavitch movement in 1982 and re-named the Educational Institute Oholei TOrah. Rosenfeld said police had / still not found any clues to the identity of the vandals. He said the vandals had smeared anti-Semitic graffiti on the structure's marble sections and on the walls of the main floor of the building. Rosenfeld said the obscenities had been scrawled on the walls, as well as a "Heil Hiter" and a drawing of a soldier giving the Naz.i salute.• , DISTRIBUTOR'S WANTED Music by Sam Barnett Big or small, we custom the music to lour needs.
