Hechtman said he wishes "to see
Bar-Ilan produce the finest in-

primarily what the country needs for

Asked how the Detroit Friends per-
petuate the support for Bar-Ilan,
Mrs. Stollman said that those who
serve in chairmanships "stay with
us, even when they're not chairmen
anymore."
Stollman, however, is the
spearhead. He enlists young men and
women to work on behalf of Bar-Ilan
— making phone calls, bringing in
their friends and acting in a public
relations capacity for the Jewishly-
oriented university. Although he
tried to play down his role in this
respect, Nusbaum jumped in. "He's
gotten a lot of people really dedicated
and involved in this thing over the
years."
From a small meeting of De-
troiters who believed in a vision, Is-
rael now enjoys the benefits of an
educational institution that boasts
faculties in humanities, Jewish
studies, law, natural sciences and so-
cial sciences.
And like a proud father, Phillip
Stollman lets fall his wall of modesty.
"It gives me tremendous satis-
faction to see how well it was ac-
cepted."
