types of school shoes — the
ones worn in class and a
separate pair for gym. The
big trend in boys' footwear,
according to Steve Brown,
manager of Children's Shoe
Mart in Farmington, is
"athleisure" shoes. These
shoes, for those who remain
uninitiated, are made of
dress leather, but designed
to look like an athletic shoe.
Girls, Brown said, are
choosing shoes in bright
colors, especially red. Shoes
with Velcro fasteners,
rather than laces, are also
popular among both sexes.
Meanwhile, buying a gift
of school clothes fora niece,
nephew, or the child of a
friend isn't all that easy
anymore. How does one go
about choosing something
that is both practical and
popular and, at the same Southfield's Stacey Nemzin, 6, prefers the layered look of a
time, won't take the buyer three-piece skirt set by by Boomers. The outfit features a
three years to pay for? For buffalo checked, flannel skirt, pullover top made of
young girls, Schechter—poly-cotton and a sweatshirt-like vest. Stacey's brother
recommends cords and a Robert, 3, opts for a sporty two-piece combination, also by
sweater. A novelty sweat- Boomers. Both the pants and the jacket are made of resilient
shirt, something with zip- nylon, with a touch offlannel added to the jacket's sleeves for
pered sleeves and printing extra warmth. Featured clothes are from Peanuts Ltd. in
