Young Lubavitch rabbis teach
mitzvot in statewide visits

The Lubavitch Founda-
tion of Michigan has an-
nounced that as part of the
summer visitation project
by volunteer rabbinical
students, five young men
will spend the balance of
their vacation-time travel-
ing throughout Michigan
visiting both large com-
munities and isolated areas.
Their goal is to encourage
further spiritual growth,
especially among young
people.
The Michigan program is
once again just one small
part of the world-wide
summer-visitation program
whose principal aim is to as-
sure that every Jewish boy

and girl receive religious
education wherever they
are. The rabbis disseminate
educational and reading
materials to all the people
they visit.
As part of their mission
the young scholars will seek
to further the observance of
basic Jewish command-
ments and precepts (called
mitzvot). These include that
every Jewish male put on
tefillin, that every home
have an authentic mezuzah
on the doorpost, that every
home have a charity box
and that all Jewish women
and young girls (from the
age of 3) kindle the Sabbath
and holiday candles.
