Recent neo-Nazi publications
dispel the Holocaust 'myth'

BY JOEL BAINERMAN
Special to The Jewish News

It has been said that his-
tory is the interpretation of
the past and each genera-
tion brings with it a new
perspective on those events
that preceded it. Disguised
under the academic pursuit
of "revisionist history," a
new form of anti-Semitism
has emerged whose aim is to
reject the actuality of the
Holocaust.
In the early 1970s a book-
let entitled Did Six Million
Really Die? circulated in
Great Britain, written by
someone called Robert
Harwood. The pamphlet
was published by the His-
torical Review Press in Sur-
rey, England, a neo-fascist
organization and the prop-
aganda arm of the National
Front, the British Nazi
Party. In it, the author con-
tended that the Holocaust
was "a gigantic hoax, "the
most colossal piece of fiction
of all time" and that "the
number of Jewish dead was
in the thousands:" The
writer maintained that the
prisoners of the concentra-
tion camps were given pro-
per medical care and abun-
dant parcels of food by the
Red Cross.
Since the pamphlet's pub-
lication, the identity of

Robert Harwood has
emerged. His real name in
Richard Verral and he is
chief editor of Spearhead,
the mouthpiece of the Na-
tional Front. The booklet
asserts that he is a writer
and specialist in the politi-
cal and diplomatic aspects
of World War II at the Uni-
versity of London. However
Paul Foster Vowles, the
academic registrar at the
university, has testified in
an affidavit that no person
named Robert Harwood is
now or has ever been a pro-
fessor at the University of
London. A court order has
since restrained the Histor-
ical Review Press from re-
producing the booklet.

Kingdom as a result of his
Nazi-related activities.
Three major works have
been written on the subject
of denying the Holocaust.

way onto the shelves of uni-
versity and public libraries
throughout North America.
The three treatises claim
that the "Holocaust story"
was a lie fabricated by the
World Zionist Organization
in collaboration with the Al-
lies in order to derive moral
support for the creation of
the State of Israel.

The Journal of Historical
Review was established in
1980 in Torrance, Calif. by
the Liberty Lobby (an
American-based anti-
Semitic pressure group) for
the sole purpose of inves-
tigating the "myth" of the
genocide of the Jewish
people. The founder of the
organization, Arthur Butz,
is an associate professor of
electrical engineering at
Northwestern University in
Evanston, Ill. who was de-

The first two books were
written by the late Paul
Rassinier of France. In a
rambling and sometimes
incomprehensible style,
Rassinier concludes that at
least 4,416,108 of the "al-
leged" six million were not
killed. He contends that the
Final Solution did not mean
the extermination of the
Jews and any Jews who
were killed were the work of
"one or two foolish Nazi
zealots and camp adminis-
trators anxious to please
them."

Debunking the Genocide
Myth, The Drama of the
European Jews, and The
Hoax of the Twentieth Cen-
tury have all made their

Why should such books be
found in public libraries?
The fact that there is a book
selection department in
every library suggests that
a criteria of scholarly rele-
vance exists, which accepts
or rejects books on any
given subject. It can hardly ,
be the policy o
government-sponsored in-
stitutions to contribute to
the financial survival of
such infamous and notori-
ous groups as the Liberty
Lobby and the Historical
Review Press.

Just as they distort the
history of the Holocaust, the
boOks do however shed some
light on the state of contem-
porary anti-Semitism.
What if the Holocaust shelf
at the neighborhood library
were to become saturated
with sufficient number of
works "proving" that the
Holocaust was a myth? The
truth about the, Holocaust
and the six million who died
because of the crime of
being Jewish would in such
circumstances become dou-
ble victims — victims of the
Holocaust itself and victims
of an historical hoax.
