Terrorist faces
life in prison

Jerusalem (JTA) — A
young Palestinian terrorist
was sentenced to life im-
prisonment for murder by a
military court in Ramallah
last week.
Jammal Al-Awarne, 22,
was convicted of the fatal
shooting of Yaacov Kor, an
Israeli shopper in
Bethlehem's open air mar-
ket two years ago. During
his trial he confessed to
membership in Al Fatah,
the military arm of the
Palestine Liberation
Organization. He also con-
fessed to throwing Molotov
cocktails at Israeli military
ad civilian vehicles and
planting explosives in
Jerusalem and Beit
Shemesh.
He shot Kor in the head at
close range in 1982. About a
year later he himself was
seriously wounded when
Allan Goodman, an
American-born Israeli
soldier, opened fire on Arab
worshippers as the left their
mosques on the Temple
Mount in East Jerusalem.

Israel closes
Arab university
on West Bank

Jerusalem — Israeli mili-
tary authorities closed the
West Bank Arab University
of Najah in Nablus Sunday
for four months following
the confiscation of pro-
PaleStine Liberation
Organization materials
from the campus.
The material, which Is-
raeli authorities said in-
cluded PLO banners, sym-
bols and instruction books
on terrorist warfare was
displayed in a Palestinian
heritage exhibit mounted
by members of a pro-Fatah
student group. Fatah is the
section of the PLO which
has remained loyal to PLO
leader Yasir Arafat.
Such exhibits are fre-
quently mounted in Arab
universities in the West
Bank, but the authorities
usually prevent them from
taking place or dismantle
them, arguing that the term
"heritage" is only used to
cover their real purpose,
which is anti-Israel incite-
ment.
