Borge talks
to Scandinavia
group in Boston
Boston (JTA) — Victor
Borge's appearance on be-
half of the Thanks to Scan-
dinavia Organizaion was
the feature of the annual
meeting of the National
Association of Jewish legis-
lators (NAJL); held here
last week.
In appreciation of Scan-
dinavian efforts to rescue
Jews during the Holocaust,
Thanks to Scandinavia
serves to acquaint Ameri-
cans with these acts of brav-
ery and to provide schol-
arships for young Scan-
dinavians to study in
America. Founded in 1963,
the organization has raised
some $2 million and has
brought more than 500 stu-
dents here. Borge is na-
tional chairman and
Richard Netter is president.
In addition to Borge's ad-
dress, NAJL members were
briefed here on such issues
as black-Jewish relations,
Soviet emigration, the
foreign disclosure bill, and
the equal access bill, by
representatives of the
Anti-Defamation League of
B'nai B'rith, American
Jewish Congress, and the
National Conference on
Soviet Jewry.

New York (JTA) —
CARE, the international
aid and development organ-
ization and Israel's Minis-
try of Labor and Social Af-
fairs, announced the closing
of CARE's program in Israel
after 35 years.
According to Dr. Philip
Johnson, CARE's executive
director, "The closing of our
program in Israel was
prompted by the impressive
strides made by Israel and
its people toward a higher
standard of living through
its economic and social de-
velopment efforts. We are
proud of having served as a
bridge of understanding
and friendship between the
people of Israel and the
United States."
Johnson noted that the
total value of CARE projects
in Israel since 1949 was
$66,390,000 worth of goods
and services.
Bill requiring
`get' defeated
Harrisburg (JTA) — The
Pennsylvania State Senate
has defeated a House-
approved Divorce Reform
Bill, which had a clause re-
quiring Jewish husbands to
give their wives a Jewish
Bill of Divorce (get), before
they could get a civil di-
vorce.
The provisions would also
have required unwilling
Jewish wives to receive the
get from their husbands, ac-
cording to a report in the
