THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
rakhan opposes Israel.
Nakhleh reminded his
listeners of the Moslem
commandments for jihad
a holy war against unbe-
lievers to fight the people
who occupied your home
and expelled you — to fight
the forces of evil." It was
clear that he was calling for
jihad against the Jews of Is-
rael.
"If we do not unite,"
warned Nakhleh, "I predict
that in three years, all the
Palestinians in the West
Bank and Gaza will be ex-
pelled, the Kingdom of Jor-
dan will be occupied by Is-
rael, the southern parts of
Syria and Lebanon will be
incorporated into Israel and
the Dome of the Rock will be
destroyed."
He cited the lesson he
claimed to have learned
when he first came to New
York in 1947 as the repre-
sentative of the Arab High
Commission for Palestine.
"The Jews control the gov-
ernment and commerce of
the United States. But there
is one thing that Arabs can
do. All the Arab govern-
ments must make a meeting
and face the United States
with an ultimatum that if
you will not stop this al-
liance with Israel and giv-
ing Israel all this money,
weapons and economic help,
then all the Islamic gov-
ernments will sever dip-
lomatic relations with the
United States and all
American companies will be
(ordered) out.
"We are buying from the
United States $70 billion of
goods. And that is only the
Arab countries. If you add
the Islamic countries, it is
an additional $60 or $70 bil-
lion. If Arabs and Muslims
told the United States to-
morrow that if you will not
stop this support of Israel
we will cut our diplomatic
relations — it would stop.
"But American advisers
in Washington never take
the Arabs seriously. What-
ever they say, they say for
their people as propaganda
and they don't mean it. So _
we must work as a hand, to-
gether, united — Arabs and
Muslims in the United
States, the Black Muslims,
and Arab governments — to
unite in one program to stop
this Zionist control of the
United States."
Later, in an interview
with this reporter, one of the
few Nakhleh has ever
granted to the Jewish press,
he elaborated upon his
speech. ' When asked
whether the recent arrests
in Israel of Jewish terrorists
indicated a willingness of
the Israeli government to
crack down upon those who
threaten Moslem holy
places, Nakhleh replied, "I
don't think so. They couldn't
hide it any more. The reason
they postponed the trial is
that if the Likud bloc wins,
they will just release the
terrorists.
"The government of Is-
rael encourages them. I
