inseminating the female
goat. This resulted in a
sharp increase in the num-
bers of the yaez, which now
number some 1,200 head.
The reseachers are now
working to increase the fer-
tility of the female. They
also are investigating the
possibility of adapting the
yaez to a different environ-
ment than exists in its cur-
rent location, Kibbutz
Lahay.
Raising of the yaez has
been incorporated into the

Kibbutz Lahay. Last year,
the kibbutz sold 4 tons of
yaez meat, and this year ex-
pects to sell 7 tons. Further
development will depend on
the possibilities for export,
and efforts are now being
made to increase the yield
for that purpose.

Patt confident
Israel economy
will rebound

Jerusalem (ZINS) — Is-
raeli Minister of Commerce
and Industry Gideon Patt
expressed optimism on the
future of the country's
economy in an intrview
with the economic weekly,
Asakim.
"Despite the highly pub-
licized economic crisis,"
Patt said, "Israel has still
been able to avoid a sig-
nificant increase in the un-
employment rate, unlike
the experience of other
highly developed coun-
tries."
Meanwhile, Davar, an of-
ficial publication of the His-
tadrut (Labor Party), claims
that under Likud guidance,
Israel's foreign debt has
doubled. The paper reported
that the debt has gone from
$13.6 billion in 1977 to $28
billion last year.
