Man guilty
in bombing of
Tenn. synagogue

(JTA) — Joseph Paul
Franklin, a convicted mur-
derer was found guilty here
July 12 of bombing a Chat-
tanooga synagogue in 1977
after telling the jury he had
bombed the synaogue be-
cause it was the "synagogue
of Satan."
Franklin was sentenced
to a term of 15 to 21 years in
prison for the bombing and
a consecutive term of six to
10 years for possession of
explosives.
The 34-year-old drifter is
already serving life sen-
tences for violating the civil
rights of two black men who
were fatally shot while jog-
ging with two white women
in Utah. Franklin also faces
trial for racially-motivated
crimes in- other states.
