Weizmann teaches doctors

Rehovot — Leading
' Colombian doctors and re-
searchers recently learned
about new approaches to
cancer therapy in a course
given by Prof. Abraham
Amsterdam and Dr. Em-
manuel Hanski of Israel's
Weizmann Institute. This
course, held at the country's
National Cancer Institute,
was part of a cooperative
agreement betWeen the
Colombian Scientific Re-
search Institute and the
Weizinann Institute of Sci-
ence.

Prof. Amsterdam's own
work has centered on a re-
cently identified link be-
tween specific types of
cancer and hormones. In
addition to the importance
of hormones as a diagnostic
tool, Prof. Amsterdam says
that hormone-antagonists
— materials that interfere .
with hormone action — may
eventually find use as •
tumor-growth inhibitors.

Prof. Amsterdam's lab is,
a leader in the field of hor-
mone receptor localization.
