THE OETROIJI.JEWISH NEWS MARC ANKERMAti British still holding Israelis in Dikko case Jerusalem (JTA) —Three Israelis and a Nigerian dip- lomat were remanded for another eight days in police custody in London last week after being charged with the attempted kidnapping of Umaru Dikko, former Transport Minister of Nigeria who is now a politi- cal exile. The men were re- manded after a four-minute court appearance. The Israeali government has disclaimed any connec- tion with the incident or with the Israelis taken into custody by the British authorities. Two were iden- tified yesterday as residents of Netanya. The third, iden- tified as Alexander Barak, 27,, is also from Netanya where his family is highly regarded. His mother, Naomi, is chairman of the local WIZO chapter, and his stepfather, Shlom6 Bauchman, is a well-known diamond dealer. Barak is facing kidnap charges along with Felix Abutbul, 41, and Dr. Arye Lev Shapiro, a 45-year-old anesthetist on the staff of the Hasharon Hospital in Petach Tikva. Meanwhile, an American company with strong Israeli connections has denied that it was involved in the Dikko kidnapping. Mordechai Ellison, a di- rector of Johnson, Drake and Piper, said last week that there was "no truth in the allegation that I or this company had anything to do with the Dikko matter." Johnson, Drake and Piper, registered in Dela- ware, is a construction com- pany, with a branch office in London.
