Detroit Bar-Ilan University Friends

Phillip Stollman, chair-
man of Bar-Ilan Univer-
sity's Global Board of Trus-
teed, has announced the ap-
pointment of both an execu-
tive committee and a board
of advisers in Detroit to im-
plement plans for the uni-
versity's dinner on Sept. 18
at which Samuel Hechtman
will be honored.
The occasion will mark
the beginning of Bar-Ilan's
30th academic year this fall,
as well as the dedication of
the Hechtman Heroes Road,
a system of ramps and other
facilities that will provide
barrier-free access to the
many Bar-Ilan students re-
stricted to wheelchairs as a
result of war-time injuries.
Named to the Executive
Committee, in addition to
Stollman, were Donald Fox,
Paul Zlotoff, Dr. Leon Fill,
Dr. Martin Hart, Sharon

Dr. Gershon Winer, standing, right, coordinator of the
Moshe and Sarah Friedman Yiddish Teacher Training
Program at Bar-Ilan as well as of the university's Yiddish
chair, gave a report on these programs at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Morris Friedman. Ten students. are currently
enrolled under the auspices of the Friedman program, and
plans are to significantly increase this number during the
next two to three academic years. Graduates of the program
will be qualified to teach Yiddish in Israel's high schools.
