Millenial genius?

Your splendid article on
Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz in the
issue of May 18 was dis-
cussed at length at a meet-
ing of erudites, (how this
writer fit in there is prob-
lematic), but be that as it
may, the consensus was
that the treatise is a valu-
able document.
On the point, however, of
the note that the rabbi is a
genius that appears once in
two millenia, a well known
local rabbi, a noted scholar
in both Hebrew lore and
secular knowledge, who has
met the subject of your arti-
cle, shrugged his shoulders
without any further com-
ment.
It is seen with much satis-
faction that you have added
new features on Torah and
mitzvot, particularly com-
ments on the Sedrah of the
week by authoritative
writers, and generally ex-
panded the religious cover-
age. May you go from
strength to strength for the
good of our community and
our people, in this and other
fields . . .

It was very disappointing
to see the misleading type of
journalism found on the
front page of your June 15
issue. In accordance with
your new format, the upper
right corner features a pic-
ture of a person whom you
go on to describe in the arti-
cle. The title given to this
person reads: "Supporting
Jewish terrorism." The im-
plication is that this woman
that you picture on Page
One is a supporter of such
terrorism.
You go on to describe this
woman as Shifra Blass, the
spokeswoman for the coun-
cil of Jewish settlements in
Yehuda, Shomrom and Aza.
The article itself portrays
her as hardly being a sup-
porter of Jewis terrorism.
The article quotes her
position as stating "that if
the crimes for which the
people were rounded up are
proven to be true, we de-
nounce categorically the
plans and attempts to carry
them out. We do not feel re-
sponsible for providing
legal aid for the planners of
mass murder."
Dr. Bruce S. Sherizen

Jewish terrorism

Rabbi Greenberg's article
("Jewish terrorism." June
22) is an outrage. As an Or-
thodox rabbi, whom Green-
. berg exhorts to make "un-
equivocal judgements . . .
and now," I respond:
1. Not only have the ac-
cused settlers not yet been
convicted, they have not
even been tried. The call for
"unequivocal judgements
. . . now" flies in the face of
Cohtihued'on; next page is• t

now available.

I couldn't live at home."
