Festival on the campus of
Oakland University in
Rochester will present jazz,
dance and classical concerts
this weekend.
Vocalist Cleo Laine and
the Jazz All-Stars will be
featured in an ' "Ellington
Evening" 8 p.m. today. Ms.
Laine will stage a solo con-
cert 8 p.m. Saturday.
The Harbinger Dance
Company will present a
children's concert 11 a.m.
Saturday' and David Zin-
man will conduct the De-
troit Symphony Orchestra
at 6 p.m. Sunday. Pianist
Ivan Moravec will be the
featured soloist for Sun-
day's concert.

Oak Park hosts
ethnic festival

The city of Oak Park will
sponsor an International
Ethnic Festival Sunday in
Shepherd Park.
The day-long event will
feature entertainment by
14 different groups of sin-
gers and dancer's, food
booths offering a broad
selection of ethnic spe-
cialties and several arts and
crafts demonstrations.
The festival, the first of
its kind in Oak Park, is
being held in conjunction
with the city's Indepen-
dence Day activities and
will be co-hosted by media
personalities Byron Mac-
Gregor and Jo-Jo Shutty-
MacGregor. Admission to
the festival is free.

Theater fest
at the Hilberry

The Hilberry Theater at
Wayne State University
will open its Summer Thea-
ter Festival 8 p.m. Thurs-
day with performances of
Cole, a musical review
based on the songs of Cole
Porter, and the Alan
Ayckbourn comedy, Rela-
tively Speaking. Both plays
will continue through Aug.

Music in park

Folksinger Ron Coden
will perform for Oak Park's
"Music-in-the-Park" con-
cert series 7:30 p.m. Tues-
day in Shepherd Park.
Spectators may 'bring
their own lawn chairs for
the free concert. In case of
rain, the program will be
held at the Oak Park High
School auditorium.
