Isratech '84
attracts 1,000

BY ELMER WINTER

In biblical times, the
fruits of the harvest from all
over the Land of Israel were
brought together once a
year: wines from the Car-
mel, olives of Judea, dates
from the palms of Ein Gedi.
In modern Israel, the fruits
of another harvest are col-
lected every three years.
They call it Isratech, and
here the achievement of Is-
rael's moat sophisticated
industries are presented to
the world. The scope and
range of these products con-
firm that Israel today is
truly a land flowing with
high-tech and research and
development.
Isratech '84 took place at
the Tel Aviv exhibition
grounds and attracted 1,000
businessmen and members
of official delegations from
around the world. The
largest group was a 400-
man contingent from the
U.S., includng 100 repre-
sentatives of companies
looking for Israeli high-tech
industries to perform sub-
contracting, especially in
the fields of precision
metal-working. In the last
15 months alone, Israel's
metals and electronics in-
austries have received $550
million in such orders.
Other visitors were on the
lookout for innovative Is-
raeli products - and there
were plenty in fields as var-
ied as medicine, defense,
industrial tools and office
equipment. Items that vis-
itors to Isratech '84 found
particularly intriguing in-
cluded: •
• The EL-DE "Finger-
key," a security system that
uses electro-optics to make
your own fingerprint the
"key" to access control.
• Elbit's avionic com-
puterized control systems
for use in aircraft, such as
the advanced new Lavi jet
fighter.
• Algat's high-tech alu-
minum cookware, manufac-
tured with an electrochemi-
cal process that makes the
aluminum alloy harder
than steel. Because the
coating is an integral part of
the metal, these utensils
will not chip, track or rust,
while retaining aluminum's
highly efficient heat-
conducting properties.
• Elscint's Gyrex Nuclear
Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
system, the last word in the
field of high-quality inter-
nal body-imaging systems.
• A, computer graphics
system designed for printed
circuit fabrication by Sci-
tex, the herzlia firm that
