The Levines

1991 COOLIDGE • BERKLEY

The Levines taught con-
firmation and high school
classes at Temple Israel for
many years. This was pre-
ceded by 16 years on the fa-
culty of Temple Beth El.
Earlier yet, the Levines
taught at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek, and led the religious
school of the congregation
in Port Huron during the
three years they lived in
that community.
Levine
served
as
president of the Temple Is-
rael brotherhood in 1952
and 1953; organized the an-
nual Retreat series; is a life
member of the Jewish
Chautauqua Society; and is
former chairman of the
temple archives committee.
Mrs. Levine served as sis-
terhood vice president of
religious activites, and for
five years gave a course on
"The Joys of Jewish Liv-
ing."
Among their community
activities are membership
in the Jewish Historical
Society, of which Levine
served as treasurer, and

ship in Hadassah. Levine

were married in Detroit by
Rabbi Abraham M. Her-
shman of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek, on June 29, 1924.
Four generations of the
Levines' family will join
them at the service: sister,
Ida Levine of Southfield;
children, Mr. and Mrs.
Louis (Ruth) Cassel of
Southfield; grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.
The Levines have six
grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Earlier this month, the
Levines were honored at a
party hosted by Miss Levine
and Mr. and Mrs. Cassel,
which their children, Dr.
and Mrs. Walter (Linda) Applebaum-Subelsky
Levine of Eastchester, N.Y.,

ders from the United States
totalling $2 billion to offset
the large defense purchases
Israel has made in the U.S.,
Defense Minister Moshe
Arens said here last week.
He said that the original
agreement with the U.S. for
reciprocal or offset pur-
chases had not been im-

but a new policy had re-
