A little television science
and a little electronic magic
linked Detroit, 19 other
U.S. and Canadian cities
and Israel last week, in
preparation for the 1984
Jewish Agency Assembly.
Detroit played a signific-
ant role in the teleconfer-
ence with North American
federation leadership and
Jewish Agency Assembly
delegates, involving 800
persons across the country.
While Detroiters Martin
E. Citrin and Max M. Fisher
sat in New York, alongside
other international Jewish
leaders, questions were
phoned in from special tele-
conference centers. Flint,
Toledo and Windsor repre-
sentatives joined the local
contingent meeting at
WTVS (Channel 56) studios
in Detroit.
Citrin led in the briefing
as president of the Council
of Jewish Federations;
Fisher's participation was
as founding chairman of the
reconstituted Jewish
Agency. Also participating
was former Detroiter Irwin
S. Field, chairman of the
United Israel Appeal,
whose parents Mr. and Mrs.
Walter (Lea) Field were
among the Detroit audi-
ence.
Sponsors of the telecon-
ference were the CJF, UIA,
United Jewish Appeal and
UIA of Canada, all of which
will have representation at
the Jewish Agency Assem-
bly opening Sunday in
Jerusalem. Almost 400
delegates from 30 countries
will be in attendance.
Jane Sherman, a member
of the Jewish Agency board
of governors and national
Project Renewal chairman,
participated in the Detroit
hook-up.
Others who will be pre-

sent for the 13th —bar
mitzvah — anniversary
Agency assembly include
Paul Zuckerman, chairman
of the Jewish Agency Lead-
ership Development Insti-
tute; Joel D. Tauber and
Judge Avern Cohn,
president and executive
committee chairman, re-
spectively, of the Jewish
Welfare Federation; Stan-
ley D. Frankel, chairman of
the 1985 Allied Jewish
Campaign; Wayne L. Feins-
tein, executive vice
president of Federation;
Lawrence S. Jackier, newly
named chairman of the UJA
national missions program;
and Young Leadership
Cabinet leaders Dr. Dan
Guyer and Peter Alter.
Irwin Green and Mr. and
Mrs. Max (Frieda) Stollman
also will attend.
