Quito (JTA) — The
agreement of Ecuador has
no intention of allowing the
Palestine Liberation
Organization to open an
office in Ecuador.
The assurance was given
to Daniel Thursz, executive
vice president of B'nai
B'rith International, at a
meeting with Foreign
Minister Louis Valenca
Rodriguez. Thursz is on a
seven-nation tour of Latin
America.
The Ecuadorian diplomat
said that while his govern-
ment is concerned with the
rights of the Palestinian
people and opposes the ac-
quisition of territory by
conquest, it is also opposed
'to terrorism.
Thursz also met with Vice
President-elect Biasco
Penaherrera Padilla to dis-
cuss the problem of the huge
international debts owed by
South American countries.
Later he met with the U.S.
ambassador to Ecuador,
Sam Hart, the Israeli am-
bassador, Eleazer Armon,
and -addressed meetings of
the Quito Jewish commu-
nity and the local B'nai
B'rith lodge.
Educators meet
in Jerusalem
Jerusalem (JTA) —
"There will be a minimum
of ceremonies and a relative
lArge number of working
sessions" at the World
Leadership Conference for
Jewish Education which
opened here this week, ac-
cording to Morton Mandel,
the conference chairman.
Some 160 delegates from
abroad and 50 Israeli are
attending the parley. Most
of the participants are
community leaders; only a
quarter of them are profes-
sional educators. The con-
ference, being convened by
Premier Yitzhak Shamir,
Education Minister Zevu-
lun Hammer and Leon Dul-
zin, chairman of the Jewish
Agency and World Zionist
Organization Executives,
will concentrate on the sur-
vival of Jewry in a secular
age when assimilation and
inter-marriages are ram-
pant.
"Our main aim is to raise
interest ill— the subject
(Jewish education) among
those wh9 until now have
been standing afar," Dulzin
said a press conference
Sunday. "The survival of
the Jewish people is the is-
sue."
