WHEN STATE Repre-
sentative Joe Forbes, major-
ity floor leader, announced
his intent to retire end of
this year, the very popular
legislator was asked what
he intended to do ... "Oh,
I'll probably get a hat check
concession in an Orthodox
synagogue."

Joe will no doubt become
part of Michigan Governor
Jim Blanchard's team in
Lansing ... They are close
friends ... and Joe is too
valuable a man not to be
utilized in governmental
workings.

HY LEWIS WRITES...
"Going back into time and
recalling getting all-A's in
Spanish at Bishop School
was Jack Katz (must have
been an innocent love affair
going on between Jack and
his Spanish teacher): How
many readers remember
Mr. Gunn, the principal at
old Garfield School? I also
remember the cute little
rubber hose he used to ad-
monish some cif the kids
with - couldn't get away
with nothing those days!
"Seeing Julie Corman
from time to time recalls
Julie tending fountain at
brother,Abe's Sweet Shop at
the corner of Lee Place and
12th Street - couldn't
make up my mind whether
to spend 15 cents for a sun-
dae or go across the street to,
the Cream of Michigan res-
taurant for banana cream
pie.
"Bumped into Wally and
Eve Fein at MCL cafeteria
at Tel-12 Mall and over cof-
fee reminisced about the old
days at Central High School
where just across the street
on Linwood, Wally reigned
as one of the youngest own-
ers of a deli establishment
ever. I remembered very
well punching the old
baseball board while geting
change for a corned beef
sandwich and coffee that
couldn't have been more
than 30 cents altogether."
