Phoenix Airlines, Inc, a publicly-traded company, will offer commercial cQm- muter airline service from Oakland-Pontiac airport to Chicago, Cleveland and Northern Michigan begin- ning this summer. The airline, which was formed last fall, has pur- chased three 15-passenger Beechcraft 99-A planes and also ordered two new air- craft carrying 36 passengers with a flight attendant in full stand up- Ecumenical tour to Israel slated The Ecumenical Institute for Jewish-Christian Studies will have its second annual ecumenical study tour to Israel Oct. 31-Nov. 16. A meeting for persons in- terested in taking the tour will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the North Con- gregational Church, room E, • 26275 Northwestern Hwy., Southfield. Cost of the tour includes side tours and transfers, breakfast,. dinner and round-trip air fare. A $200 deposit is required. There will be visits to his- torical sites, universities, shrines and to religious in- stitutions representing the diverse traditions of the tour members. The totur will be con- ducted by Rev. Baby boom San Francisco (JTA) — A Jewish baby boom in the Bay Area has created an unprecedented demand for child care which has forced the Oakland-Piedmont Jewish Community Center to use a lottery to parcel out early childhood openings. The center nursery program currently accommodates 93 children. cabin, scheduled for deliv- ery in September 1985. Phoenix President Dale R. Johnson and Vice President Benjamin Her- shkovitz, owner of B & H Travel in Southfield and West Bloomfield, met with Rep. William S. Broomfield (R-Mich.), who counts Pon- tiac among his constituen- cies, and congratulated the principals on the founding of their firm. The company will be geared to the busi- ness traveller. Having received verbal approval from the Federal Aviation Administrtion and the Civil Aeronautics Board, Phoenix Airlines is planning to recruit addi- tional pilots, to establish tie-ins through large car- riers for a computerized reservation system and to begin an advertising cam- paign, Hershkovitz said. Johnson and Hershkovitz were aided in setting up the publicly-held company by Charles Conwell, vice president of Tylox Corp., and James Fors, president. Phoenix Airlines has named Dennis Beaulieu its chief pilot, and he and Udi Hershkovitz, son of the co- owner who finished the Flight Safety Academy in the U.S., are currently learning the flight route for the new airline. New press guide issued Jerusalem (JTA) — The Directory of World Jewish Press and Publications has been published by a Jerusalem PR firm. Among, the directory's entries are Jewish publica- tions from Poland, Czechos- lovakia, Hong Kong, India and Zimbabwe. Israel has the highest number of entries in the guide with 373, followed by the.
