WHAT WOULD A

Russian-style party be like
without oodles of vodka? .. .
And so there was plenty be-
hind the bar ... and two
bottles on every table . . . as
Clara and Harry Lenchner
celebrated their 40th an-
niversary ... at a party
given by daughter Tamara
and son-in-law Eugene
Friedman ... and son Uri
and wife Helen Lenchner
:'Uri and Helen came in
from New York for the af-
fair.
About 150 people enjoyed
themselves in the Commu-
nity Room of 5000 Town
Center on Evergreen .. as
Shirlee Bloom didn't let the
small kitchen deter her
from doing a fine job with
the Bloom Catering kosher
food.
Plenty of wild Russian
and Jewish dancing to go
along with American tunes
by the live, rhythmizing
band.
This affair for Clara and
Harry Lenchner also held a
lot of stories by much of the
attendees ... who fled from
Russia ... It was wonderful
seeing so many who had suf-
fered atrocities having Such
a good time ... This is
America ... and they're
proud to be here.
Big week for Maya and
Mike Kuchersky of Sunrise
Cafe on Northwestern .
She became a United States
citizen that week ... and
their son, Roman, was one of
the ten finalists in state
essay contest with topic of .
"America And Me" ... Sun-
rise is where you get those
delicious crepes . and
eight soups daily, including
authentic Russian borscht
. . . the latter many times
made by Maya.
Tanya Kaufman opening
Sentire women's European
designer clothes in August
at new La Mirage on
Northwestern . . . Leah
Marks, minus 20 pounds,
and hubby Mitch, dispelling
all rumors that they will
move from Detroit ... So
many authentic appetizers
made by Tamara and her
mother ... before Shirlee
Bloom took over . . . Milli-
cent Allen, Tamara's ace
manicurist, beaming as
Clara and Harry enjoyed
their festive evening .. .
People from all over attend-
ing . . . to help this lovely
couple celebrate a very fes-
tive occasion.
GET WELL WISHES
.. . to Rube Snider . . . re-
cuperating at home . . . to
Jack Mechanic . . . at
Botsford Hospital.
INTEREST • IN
WEEKEND reunion of
Northern and Central High
school classmates in the
'20s, '30s and '40s . . is
growing very fast . . . The
biggie, July 26-28, at Shera-
ton Oaks in Novi, is not
something grads mis-
takenly might feel they've
attended before . . . There
- has never been a combined
reunion of the two schools
. . . so ' many who were

friends and lived in the
same neighborhoods.
George Cantor on Chan-
nel 7 TV recently featured
several of the 1934 basket-
ball players who beat
Northern for the city cham-
pionship . Ads for
souvenir book will soon be
closed.
Kosher food at the reu-
nion for those who request it

... on his 70th birthday.
RONDA WALKON
graduated Wayne State
University . . . with mas-
ter's degree in social work
. .. and certificate in aging
and mental health ... Big
reason for parents Marlene
and Sanford Walkon, plus
brother Craig, to be proud of
her.
