Francois Mitterrand
Mitterrand, in the course
of a 45-minute meeting with
the Israeli envoy, also
stressed his determination
to keep improving Franco-
Israeli ties. After the meet-
ing, French and Israeli
sources said two more
French ministers, the state
secretary for tourism and
the minister in charge of
family affairs and social
welfare, will visit Israel
next week. Six French
ministers will have visited
Israel within a few months'
time.
Soifer also asked France
to intervene on behalf of the
Israeli POWs in Syrian and
Palestinian hands.
Mitterrand met last week
with Tatiana Bonner Yan-
kelevich, Sakharov's step-
daughter, and assured her
of his concern. Mrs. Yan-
kelevich, who was accom-
panied by her husband,
later said she had no infor-
mation on whether Mitter-
rand intends to carry on
with his proposed visit to
Moscow, never announced
but scheduled for next
month.
Mrs. Bonner's daughter
met in Geneva with scien-
tists working for a major
West European nuclear
project, known as Cern, and
asked them to continue
their efforts on Sakharov's
behalf. She also spoke be-
fore the International Par-
liamentary Group for the
Rights of Man in the Soviet
Union.
Avital Shcharansky, and
Mrs. Simone Veil also ad-
dressed the group.
The National Conference
on Soviet Jewry reported
last week that Vladimir
Tsukerman was released on
schedule from a labor camp
