LADIES AUXILIARY
will hold their 43rd annual
state convention June 1-3 at
the Holiday Inn, Far-
mington Hills.
Scholarship awards will
be presented at 7:30 p.m.
June 1. At 9:30 a.m. June 2,
services will be held at
Cong. Beth Achim. That
.ng at 7, a banquet will
ld at the Holiday Inn
ring outgoing Com-
mander Al Rosen and outgo-
ing Department President
Dorothy Cohen. Eric
Rosenow and his Continen-
tals will provide music.
At 8 a.m. June 3, registra-
tion will be held, followed
by memorial services and a
buffet breakfast. At 11 a.m.,
there will be a business
meeting including resolu-
tions, credentials, awards,
election of officers and in-
stallation. Convention
chairmen are Eli Silk and
Bertha Greenberg. For in-

of the Oak Park City Hall.
The department will also

at Machpelah Cemebery
and at 1 p.m. at Hebrew
Memorial Park.

Rio de Janeiro (JTA) —
Arnaldo Niskier, an author
and former Rio de Janeiro
government official, has
been unanimously elected a
member of Brazil's
Academy of Literature. He
is the first Jew in the his-
tory of the academy.
The son of immigrants
from Poland, Niskier was
born here. He is a director
of the board of the Bloch
publishing company which
es numerous sports and
s magazines and oper-
ates a television station. He
was twice the secretary of
the Rio de Janeiro Depart-
ment of Science and
Technology and the De-
partment of Culture and
Education.
Niskier, 49, is the author
of two books on pedagogy
and numerous articles on
culture and education. He
was a co-founder of Rio's
Jewish-Portuguese
monthly
magazine,
Menorah, and of a weekly
Jewish TV program.
