THE DETROIT JEWI,S# NpyS

r

LISTENING POST

DANNY RASKIN

SHE'S NOT ONLY pre-
tty . . . has a beautiful smile
. . . long flowing hair . . . and
a gracious personality .. .
But Linda Solomon is also a
wonderful photographer of
celebrities.
Her "Star Tracks" column
and "At Home With . ."
feature, both of which ap-
pear in the Detroit News,
are standouts . . . Not too
many celebs escape this
l ovely gal's lens clicking .. .
nd Linda's very personable
rays get few refusals for
pictures and interviews.
She was a sensation at the
recent Oscar's ceremony .. .
snapping almost 1,000 pics
. . . Her very fine photog-
raphy shows are awaited
events.
Now Linda has added an-
other dimension to her
many talents . . . The celeb-
rity photographer is a reg-
ular weekly guest on
WDIV-TV's "12 O'Clock
Live" show . . . and a
monthly regular on Cleve-
land's ABC morning talk
show, "The Morning Ex-
change" on WEWS radio.
Plus covering the
Academy Awards event,
Linda also had her camera
at a luncheon with special
guest Tom Selleck . . . and
did a photo story on set of
"The Tonight Show" with
Johnny Carson . . . She also
attended a luncheon at
Universal Studios with
Lorne Greene, Janet Leigh
and Dennis Weaver.
GOOD USED PIANO is
very much needed by the
Senior Adult Council . . . at
Jewish Community Center,
Jimmy Prentis Morris
Branch, 10 Mile - in Oak
Park . . . Call the branch,
967-4030 . . . Helen Singer
is president of the council.
FIRST BOOK by a
couple of local gals has re-
cently been published
(Doubleday & Co.) . . . It's
called, Taking Care of
Mommy . . . by Paula Lin-
den and Susan Gross.
Paula's and Susan's 235-
page book was just an idea
until the 10-year friends ex-
changed thoughts and de-
cided to write on all their
observations regarding new
motherhood . . . What to ex-
pect the moment she goes
into labor . . . to getting her
figure back . . . choosing
babysitters . . . when to be-
come lovers again, etc.
Paula, a registered dieti-
cian (1974 grad with BS
from Wayne State U.) is a
31-year-old housewife
other of three children .. .
usan, also 31, is the
mother of one son, and a
former advertising lassie
(1973 grad with B.A. from
University of Michigan).
They interviewed over
200 mothers from varied
backgrounds to provide
material for their book .. .
Many chapters contain lists
. .. nonsensical what-not-
to-do choices versus sensi-
ble hints on what to do in-
stead.
It's really a fun book with
a lot of valuable informa-

gr

tion for the new mother.
CITY OF HOPE Mr. &
Mrs. Group holds its annual
bingo for charity . . . at
Roma Hall on Telegraph,

mon, 352-3639; or President

tet . . . For reservations call

but K of P seats have been

gers vs. Baltimore Orioles,

sary.

DEPT. . . . Jeweler Harry
Weinberger with 24 karat
written all over his tie.
THE THANKS FOR
free office space . . . to
Northern-Central Super
50th reunion ... (anytime
before 1934 and after) .. .
given by CPA firm of Lin-
den, Klain, Israel and Ross
. . . also includes three other
partners . . . Peggy Kum-
mert, Don Miller and Gary
Leeman . . . plus gracious,
cooperative office gal Bar-
bara Rust.
Reunion is weekend of
July 27-29 at Sheraton-
Oaks in Novi . . . Lots of
people will stay home and
attend the days they want
for indoor and outdoor
swimming, racquetball,
sauna, whirlpool, complete
camaraderie, food galore,
etc. . . . (the biggie is Satur-
day nice, July 28) . . . and
others are taking reserva-
tions at the hotel . . . out-of-
towners and local folks.
LOOKING BACK On
Columns Of Yesteryears .. .
DEC. 4, 1942 . . . from
Cpl. Dave Rubin . . . "A
draft dodger heard that one
of his friends who wore a
truss was rejected, so when
he appeared for his medical
examination he put one on.
After the examination he
saw the medic mark his
papers with the letters 'N.E'
" 'What does that mean?"
he asked. 'Well, I'll tell you,'
the doc replied, 'they mean
`Near East.' Anybody that
can wear a truss upside
down can ride a camel for
the duration.' Dave recently
furloughed from Camp
Shelby, and immediately
called a meeting of the
Turover Juniors, of which
he is treasurer . . . At his
suggestion, the group's
entire treasury of $30 was
contributed to the War
Chest."
