Beth Abraham Hillel Moses, received the degree of doctor of divinity, honoris causa, from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America at a special aca- demic convocation this week held in conjunction with the 84th annual con- vention of the Rabbinical Assembly at the Concord Hotel, Kiamesha Lake, N.Y. Rabbi Schnipper was or- dained in 1952 at Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. A graduate of Yeshiva University, he also holds a master's degree in social work from its Wurzweiler School. Rabbi Schnipper has served congregations in De- troit, Pittsburgh, and Rabbi Schnipper Patchogue and Rutherford, N.J. before coming to Beth Abraham Hillel Moses in 1977. He also served in the United States Army for two years as a chaplain, and re-. ceived the Army Commen- dation Medal. Secular meeting in Cleveland Cleveland — "Commu- nity and Continuity" are the themes of the Congress of Secular Jewish Organiza- tion's annual convention to be held at John Carroll University in Cleveland on May 25-28. A number of workshop leaders are active in the De- troit Jewish community. These include Harold Gales of the Jewish Parents Insti- tute, who will be part of a panel entitled, "Creating and Maintaining Commu- nity Image" on Saturday af- ternoon.
