B'nai Moshe for 25 years, will per- form at 8 p.m. May 31 at B'nai Moshe in the congre- gation's annual cantors concert. Eight years ago, Man- evich came to the U.S. from Leningrad. He is an honors graduate of the Leningrad Conservatory of Music. Once in the U.S., Cantor Manevich pursued Jewish studies, and four years ago celebrated his bar mitzvah. A year after his arrival in the U.S., Cantor Manevich was accepted at the School of Sacred Music, Hebrew Union College — Jewish In- stitute of Religion in New York, where he took over di- rection of the choir. He now serves Temple Emanu-El in Livingston, N.J. His varied repertoire in- cludes liturgical music, He- brew and Yiddish songs, and Russian songs both Jewish and secular. Cantor Klein, mean- while, attended various Cantor Manevich Cantor Louis Klein yeshivot and studied music at the Conservatorium in Ostend, Belgium. Fleeing the Nazi invasion of Belgium, Cantor Klein travelled to London, where he continued his musical studies at the Guildhall School of Music. He served as cantor of the Wembley Synagogue for 18 years be- fore coming to the U.S. This year he celebrates 25 years of service at Cong. B'nai Moshe. He has served as an officer of local and na- tional Cantors' Assemblies and Councils. The program also will feature violinist Daniel Braude, who has directed the B'nai Moshe Men's Choir for 20 years. Dr. Zvi Y. Gitelman will present three lectures on Soviet and Eastern Euro- pean Jewry this weekend as Cong. B'nai Moshe's Rabbi Moses Lehrman Scholar- in-Residence. Dr. Gitelman's topic at Sabbath morning services will be "Current Crisis." He will speak again between Mincha and Maariv serv- ices on "Reform, Revolution and Reaction." Mincha services will start at 7:15 p.m. with the lecture at ap- proximately 7:45. On Sunday, Dr. Gitelman will present an illustrated slide lecture at 10 a.m. on "The Jewish Remnant in Eastern Europe Today." The lecture will be preceded by a continental breakfast beginning at 9:30. Dr. Gitelman is professor of political science and di- rector of the Center for Rus- sian and Eastern Europe Studies at the University of Michigan.
