NY consumer
action urged on
kosher pricing

New York (JTA) — State
Attorney General Robert
Abrams said last week that
wide variations in the retail
price of kosher chickens in
New York demonstrated
that wise shopping by
,'- -sher consumers help curb
price of kosher foods in
trie state.
Abrams made the state-
ment as he released a report
by the Anti-Trust Bureau of
the Department of Law on
its investigation of kosher
poultry prices in New York.
The investigation, initiated
in response to numerous
complaints from state offi-
cials and from members of
the public, led the state
anti-trust bureau to con-
clude that kosher poultry
prices are higher than
prices for comparable non-
kosher poultry as a result of
substantially higher prod-
uction and distribution
costs. The investigation did
not find evidence of any il-
legal collusion or price-
fixing in the industry, Ab-
rams said.

Security firm
agrees to drop
biased queries

Los Angeles (JTA) — A
company which asked ques-
tions about religious beliefs
in a test for people wanting
to become security guards
at the Olympic Games has
agreed to drop the questions
after the Anti-Defamation
League of B'nai B'rith com-
plained that the questions
were offensive to some and
irrelevant to the job.
Applicants were asked
five questions, among 160
in the test, including
whether they believed in
the Second Coming of
Christ and whether "every-
thing is turning out just like
the Prophets in the Bible
said it would." The security
firm which prepared the
questionnaire signed the
queries were part of a
widely accepted screening
process to determine pat-
terns of thinking.
