Jack Barry,
game show host

New York — Jack Barry,
producer and star of the
television show "The
Joker's Wild" died May 3 at
age 66.
Mr. Barry also was the
producer of "Concentra-
tion," television's longest-
running daytime game
show.
Born Jack Barasch, Mr.
Barry met Dan Enright
with whom he formed a
partnership in the 1940s. In
addition to "The Joker's
Wild" and "Concentration,"
their production company
created and produced "Tic
Tac Dough," "Hot Potato,"
"Life Begins at 80," "Winky
Dink and You" and "Dough
Re Mi."

According to the New
York Times, in the 1950s,
Mr. Barry was the host and
co-producer of the "21"
show, the highest-rated
game program of its time.
NBC purchased the produc-
tion firm of Barry and
Enright for about $4.8 mil-
lion, primarily to obtain
control of the show. But "21"
along with other game
shows such as "The $64,000
Question," was taken off the
air amid charges that the
producers coached the con-
testants prior to the show.
Investigations followed,
but no one was charged.
Leading participants in the
scandal were banished, and
Mr. Barry was away from
television for nearly 12
years.

Alan Schneider,
theater director

New York — Theater di-
rector Alan Schneider died
May 3 at age 66.
During his 40-year
career, Mr. Schneider was
the primary American di-
rector of Samuel Beckett's
plays. He also directed the
works of Edward Albee,
Harold Pinter, Michael-
Weller, Bertolt Brecht and
other playwrights.
Born Abram Leopol-
dovich Schneider in Khar-
kov, Russia, the director
was the son of medical stu-
dents who escaped to the
United States during the
Russian Revolution.,

medical purposes. Follow-
ing arrival at the eye bank,
the donor corneas are
graded from acceptable to
excellent and placed in con-
tainers with a culture
medium, a refrigerated
solution which acts as a
preservative for the delicate
tissue. The corneas are usa-
ble for a period of about 72
hours, making immediate
air shipment a necessity.

BB cassettes
now available

Washington — Disabled
persons, shut-ins, senior
citizens and the handi-
capped are the main be-
neficiaries of a new project
being undertaken by B'nai
B'rith's Community Volun-
teer Services Commission.
Through the commission,
B'nai B'rith lodges will dis-
tribute all types of audio
tapes to the disadvantaged.
The cassettes will be avail-
able to individuals or
groups and will cover a
variety of subjects and for-
mats, from music to dis-
cussions of Jewish topics.
Each cassette will be avail-
able in several versions, de-
signed for various age
levels.

tion between the eye bank
and the various Israeli hos-
pitals is required so that no
corneas are lost because of
the time limitation," the
doctor said. "Patients who
are to receive the donor cor-
neas are placed on call, so
that they can be reached at
all times.

"Before this program was
set up, those patients had to
stay on call for weeks, or
even months," Dr. Giles
said. "With this program,
any Israeli needing a
corneal transplant can have
the operation in a matter of
hours."
