Later, when she moved to Detroit, she became active in many leadership posts including the presidency of South Oakland Chapter. She has been involved in many community activities, including the Allied Jewish Campaign, American Zionist Federation, and was Betty Bienstock president of the Detroit Zionist Federation. She is a graduate of Hunter College in New York, and was an elemen- tary school teacher. Her family is into its fourth gen- eration of Hadassah mem- bership and all the men are National Associates. She also is a founder of the Hadassah-Hebrew Univer- sity Hospital on Mt. Scopus, Israel. I 1 I Displaced homemaker program in Wayne, Oakland The Jewish Vocational Service and Community Workshop, a non-sectarian agency, is continuing its displaced homemaker pro- gram for individuals from Wayne and Oakland Coun- ties. Displaced homemakers are former homemakers who, through divorce, sep- aration, widowhood, disa- bility of spouse or other crises, have lost their source of economic support. After spending many years in the home caring for family members, displaced homemakers find returning to the -job market a difficult transition.
