Telethon to aid
area hospitals

Children's Hospital of
Michigan and the C.S. Mott
Children's Hospital in Ann
Arbor will be among the
health care facilities bene-
fiting from the 1984 Chil-
dren's Miracle Network
Telethon to be televised
June 2-3 by WXON-TV
(Channel 20).
The local segments of the
telethon will be hosted by
radio personalities Dick
Purtan and Gene Taylor. In
addition, the H.J. Heinz Co.
will donate six cents for
each label from one of its
products received prior to
June 1. Labels may be for-
warded to the development
office of Children's Hospital
of Michigan, 3901 Beau-
bien, Detroit 48201.

Weekend shows
at art institute

The Detroit Institute of
Arts will offer a trio of
shows this weekend, each
geared for a different seg-
ment of the audience.
The Russian film Don
Quixote (with English sub-
titles) has been slated for
showings 1 p.m. today,
Saturday and Sunday in the
institute recital hall. Fran-
cis Ford Coppola's Rumble
Fish, which depicts teenage
cliques in the 1960s, will be
shown by the Detroit Film
Theater 7 and 9:30 p.m.
today in the museum thea-
ter. The Detroit Youththea-
ter will present the puppet
show Classical Capers 11
a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday in
the theater.

Ethnic ads
on display

New York — A display of
ethnic advertising ranging
from early American crude
racial and religious
stereotypes to today's posit-
ive images will be exhibited
nationally under the cos-
ponsorship of the Balch In-
stitute for Ethnic Studies
and the Anti-Defamation
League of B'nai B'rith
(ADL).
The exhibit, "Ethnic Im-
gges in Advertising," will be
`,splayed at the institute's
museum in Philadelphia
May 22-Sept. 7. Bookings
are now being arranged for
its display in other cities
throughout the country.
