as congregation president

James L. Jonas was
elected president of Temple
Israel at the congregation's
recent annual meeting.
Jonas is a Certified Public
Accountant and a member
of the American Institute
and Michigan Association
of CPAs.
A native Detroiter, Jonas
was graduated from Wayne
State University with a B.S.
degree in business adminis-
tration.

Elected to office with
Jonas were Linda K.
Brodsky, June Kamil,
Frederick I. Keywell and
Charles H. Tobias, vice
presidents; Raymond
Kahrnoff, secretary; and
Joel L. Piell, treasurer.
Named to three-year
terms on the temple's board
of trustees were: Dr. S.
Meyer Arbit, Marvin R.
Hoffman, Barry M. Klein,

`Trivial Pursuit'
aim of couples

Cong. Beth Shalom's
Young Couples Club will
have a "Trivial Pursuit
Night" and potluck dinner
at 8 p.m. May 19 at the Col-
ony Park Apts. club house.
Dinners must be dairy or

scheduled at Temple Israel

Adult bar and bat
mitzvah ceremonies for 43
members of Temple Israel
will be celebrated in five
separate services beginning
at 1 p.m. May 19.
The services mark the
conclusion of a two-year
course of study, which has
included Hebrew language,
Reform Jewish worship, the
prayerbook, customs and
ceremonies.
Participating in the
Saturday service will be
Ruth Aaronson, Nancy
Farber, Rosanne Fienman,
Harriet and Bernard S.
Friedman, Gail and
Franklin Gettleson and
Joan Redisch.
They have prepared an
original service for the occa-
sion, entitled "Our Sacred
Journey."
Subsequent services and
the participants are as fol-
lows:

New home for
Yiddish books

New York (JTA) — The
National Yiddish Book
Center will be moving the
250,000 Yiddish books it
has rescued from all over
North America in the past
four years into a new and
spacious haven in July.
The new headquarters is
a renovated old paper mill
in Holyoke, Mass., with
17,000 square feet of fire-
protected space, just 15
miles from the current cen-
ter in Amherst. The center
is currently seeking to raise
$75,000 to enable volun-
teers to move the books, and
install lighting, humidity
controls and steel shelving.
