Israeli court
lifts ban on
Sabbath buses

Tel Aviv (JTA) — The Is-
rael High Court of Justice
has issued a temporary in-
junction against the Minis-
ter of Transport halting his
to the Egged interur-
bs )us cooperative to stop
Saturday night bus services
from Haifa. The restraining
order is in force for 45 days
until the court hears full
arguments.
The court order was is-
sued at the request of
petitioners who said the
ministry order contravened
a decade-old arrangement
and was issued under pres-
sure from Orthodox ele-
ments, to the detriment of
most residents of Haifa.
Egged had announced
that it will have to cancel a
number of its bus lines in
Haifa if the Transport
Ministry insists that they
start their services after 8
p.m. with the institution of
daylight time last weekend.
