Flora Hoffman establishes
forest in Israel through JNF
Mrs. Flora Hoffman re-
cently established a forest of
10,000 trees under the au-
spices of the Jewish Na-
tional Fund, in the Ameri-
can Independence Park out-
side the city of Jerusalem as
a memorial tribute to her
parents, Meyer and Bessie
Beckman and her daughter,
Myra Jacqueline Hoffman.
Her parents were ardent
Zionists. Mr. Beckman•was
born in Latvia and was or-
dained at the Telshe
Yeshiva. He was president
and founder of Beth Tefilo
Emanuel Tikvah Congrega-
tion; was president of Miz-
rachi; and was a major con-
tributor to the JNF. Mrs.
Beckman was a founding
member of the Women of
JNF in Detroit and a life
member of Hadassah.
Miss Hoffman died in an
accident in May 1970,
weeks before she was to
Flora Hoffman
graduate from Wayne State
University. She was an
honor student who was
elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Mrs. Hoffman has for
years served Hadassah and
the Women of JNF. She has
served as both membership
secretary and dues secre-
tary and still serves on the
