German magazine retracts
ad from neo-Nazi group

Los Angeles (JTA) — The
Simon Wiesenthal Center
has received an official
apology and retraction from
the executive director of the
organization which pub-
lishes the German Quar-
terly for running an adver-
tisement from the Institute
for Historical Review — the
Nazi apologist organiza-
tion.
In a letter to Wiesenthal
Center Director Dr. Gerald
Margolis, Dr. Robert Gov-
ier, executive director of the
American Association of

Washington (JTA) — The
American Section of the In-
ternational Association of
Jewish Lawyers and Jurists
is calling on the Georgia
State Legislature to adopt a
law exonerating Leo Frank,
the young Jew who was
lynched by a mob in Mil-
ledgeville, Ga. in 1915, two
years after his unjust con-
viction for the murder of a
young woman, Mary Pha-
gan.
The resolution called on
the Georgia lawmakers to
override the decision of the
Georgia State Board of Par-
dons and Paroles last Dec;
22 to refuse to grant Frank a
posthumous pardon. The
board said his innocence
could not now be proved.
By so doing, "the state
compounded its early
transgressions," the resolu-
tion states, pointing out
that in the American sys-
tem of justice, a defendant is
presumed innocent until
proved guilty in a fair trial."

Teachers of German, Inc.
(AATG), a non-profit organ-
ization which publishes
German Quarterly wrote
that he was "sincerely
sorry" for "inadvertently"
accepting "the 'holocaust'
ad." Govier added that "an
article is being published in
the next issue in which 0--

The ad, which appeared
in the quarterly's winter
1984 issue, promoted the
Institute for Historical Re-
view's new book, "The
'Holocaust' —120 Questions
and Ansfbers, by Charles L.
Weber.

Haifa U. cites
researchers,
kibbUtz project

Haifa — Two Holocaust
researchers and an Israeli
kibbutz have been cited by
Haifa University -with- the
Aryeh Nesher Prize and the
Elie Wiesel Award for
Holocaust Research.
Dr. Konnilyn Feig, of San
Francisco State University,
received a Nesher Prize for
her work "The Sanity of
Madness" and Dr. Shmuel
Spector, of the Yad Vashem
in Jerusalem, was cited for
his paper on "The Jews in
the Soviet Partisan Move-
ments in Volonia."
The Memorial to Mem-
bers of Zionist Youth
Movements in Disaster and
Revolt, constructed by
members of Kibbutz
Hanoar Hazioni Tel-
Yitzhak, was awarded the
Elie Wiesel Award by the
university.
