° Dr. Fein to kickoff Bargman series

The Midrasha, College of
Jewish Studies, will hold its
28th Annual Mina and
Theodore Bargman Memo-
rial Lectures at 8 p.m. Wed-
nesday, May 2 and May 9 in
the LaMed Auditorium of
the main United Hebrew
Schools Building. The
theme for the series is
"Challenge and Response:
Jewish Leadership in Tran-
sition."
Dr. Leonard Fein, editor
of Moment magazine and
professor of politics and so-
cial policy at Brandeis Uni-
versity, will open the series
with a lecture on "Jewish
Leadership: Real and
Ideal."
A political sociologist by
training, Dr. Fein was asso-
ciate director and director of
research at the
Harvard Joint Center for
Urban Studies before join-
ing the Brandeis faculty.
Prof. Fein is the author of
several books and many ar-
ticles in both professional
and general journals. His
books include, among
others, Israel: Politics and
People and Ecology of the
Public Schools: An Inquiry
into Community Control.
In addition to his aca-
demic activities, Prof. Fein
has served as a consultant
to numerous governmental
and private organizations,
including the office of Eco-
nomic Opportunity and the
Department of Health,
Education, and Welfare,
Union of American Hebrew

The establishment of a
Magen David Adorn
Paramedics Training
Scholarship in Israel by
Sharron and Carmi
Slomovitz has been an-
nounced by Dr. John J.
Mames, chairman of Michi-
gan Region, and by Dr. Mor-
ris Starkman, chairman of
Medical-Dental Council of
the local chapter, American
Red Magen David for Israel.

Upon completion of the
training program, the
paramedics are qualified to
render on-site emergency
aid, assess the patient's
medical condition, discuss
diagnosis, treatment and
patient's response by tele-
metry and radio with doc-
tors in local hospitals.

The paramedics will man
the mobile intensive care
ambulances used to save the
lives of heart attack and ac-
cident victims as well as the
critically ill or wounded.
The Slomovitzes are
active on behalf of numer-
ous philanthropic causes
and last year became
patrons-founders of the new
MDA Blood Center. They
serve on the board of direc-
tors of the Michigan Region
— ARMDI.
They will receive a spe-
cial award "for displaying
exemplary commitment to
the humanitarian goals of
Magen David Adorn, and in
grateful recognition of their
dedicated efforts on behalf
of MDA and the people of
Israel."
