For dinner information, contact the JNF, 557-6644. • Dr. Roskies will deliver Moishe Haar lecture May 6 The Moishe Haar Memo- rial Foundation will hold its annual educational cultural event sponsored by Detroit's Sholem Aleichem Institute in memory of the late Moishe Haar at 7:30 p.m. May 6 at the LaMed Au- ditorium of the main United Hebrew Schools building. Mr. Haar was the director of the institute for many years. The institute is a sec- ular Jewish cultural and educational organization. Dr. David Roskies will speak on "The Shtetl in Fact and Fiction." A native of Montreal, Canada, he was educated at Brandeis Uni- versity where he received his doctorate in 1975. In 1971 he published Night Words: A Midrash on the Holocaust, and in 1975 he co-authored The Shtetl Book: An Introduction to East European Jewish Life and Lore. Dr. Roskies has taught Yiddish literature at Columbia and Yale Univer- sities and is currently asso- ciate professor of Jewish lit- erature at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He is a founder and editor of Prooftexts: A Journal of Jewish Literary History. His Against the book Apocalypse: Responses to Dr. David Roskies Catastrophe in Modern Jewish Culture will be pub- lished by Harvard Univer- sity Press in the spring.
