Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israel
held a practice mobilization
Tuesday to test the effi-
ciency of its system for cal-
ling up the reserves in a na-
tional emergency. The test
was held only a day after the
army announced that such
an exercise was impending,
a shorter advance notice
than usual.
Reservists were sum-
moned to their units by a
series of codewords broad-
cast on radio throughout the
day. Only four series were
used, fewer than in the past.
Military sources ex-
plained that the number of
code phrases does not indi-
cate the number of reser-
vists ordered to report. Each
code can apply to a few
dozen men or vehicles or to
several hundred or even
thousands.
The publicly broadcast
codes are one form of call-
up. Another is a secret sys-
tem of individual notices de-
livered to reservists by mes-
sengers from their units.

Jerusalem — The former
president of Greece, Prof.
Constantine D. Tsatsos,
cited the friendship of the
Jewish and Greek peoples
in keynoting a symposium
marking the dedication of
Hellenic House on the
Mount Scopus campus of the
Hebrew University of
Jerusalem.
Some 100 guests from
Greece and Cyprus
attended the dedication,
constituting the largest
Greek delegation to visit
since Israel gained its inde-
pendence. among them
were Greek government of-
ficials, academics and jour-
nalists, and representatives
of the Jewish community of
Thessaloniki, Greece.
Hellenic House is a gift of
the Jewish community of
Thessaloniki, an important
center of Sephardic Jewish
life in Europe prior to World
War II. The building, which
houses the university's
classics department, is de-
signed as a memorial to the
Greek Jewish students
slain by the Nazis.
Practice

better food stores throughout Michigan and

Communist countries in
Europe reached $170 mil-
lion in 1982, according to
the Israeli newspaper
Haaretz. Trade with Corn-
munist countries represents
about one percent of Israel's
import and export business,
the paper reported.

cated to Sephardic projects,
