Tel Aviv (JTA) — An Is-
raeli soldier was slightly
wounded by a hand grenadd
thrown at his patrol in
Nabatiya in South Lebanon
Wednesday. Five local resi-
dents were also hurt in the
blast.
Security sources are
blaming Syria for the recent
increase in attacks on Israel
Defense Force personnel in
Lebanon. According to the
sources, there were at least
70 attacks or attempted at-
tacks during the past month
in which four Israeli
soldiers have been killed
and 32 wounded. There
have been 16 attacks since
the beginning of April.
The sources say this is
due to Syria's failure to re-
strain terrorists operating
from areas of Lebanon it
controls. Observers noted
that where the Syrians have
acted to prevent attacks,
such as on the Golan
Heights, none have oc-
curred.
Meanwhile, unrest con-
tinues on the West Bank. A
grenade was thrown at an
army vehicle near Ofra
Tuesday without causing
casualties or damage. Secu-
rity forces sealed off the
footpaths leading in and out
of the Al-Arub refugee camp
near Hebron this week after
a Molotov cocktail was
thrown at an army vehicle.
There were no casualties.
Inmates of the camp may
still come and go but must
follow a round-about route.

MR. AND MRS. WEISS
New York (JTA) — A new
power plant on the campus
of Ben-Gurion University in
Beersheba that has no mov-
ing parts and can run on any
heat source from solar
energy to industrial waste
is now fully operational.
The facility, which
utilizes the Magneto-
hydrodynamic (MHD)
method of producing elec-
tricity, was the brainchild of
BGU Prof. Herman
Branover.
"We've finally demon-
strated a working model out
of the lab, "Prof. Branover
said. "It's a real, small
facility. It's not a toy. In
June, we will be demon-
strating a 10-kilowatt
semi-industrial plant in
Beersheba."
Prof. Branover's 18-foot
high working model can
generate up to one kilowatt
of electricity. The system is
unique among MHD
generators in using liquid
metal flowing between two
poles of a magnet to gener-
ate electricity at relatively
low temperatures.
Other MHD generators,
still in the experimental
stage in the U.S. and
U.S.S.R., use ionized gas
heated to 3,000 degrees cen-
tigrade. Prof. Branover's
liquid metal MHD
generator works at dramat-
ically lower temperatures of
80 to 300 degrees centig-
rade. .
