The committee said that among the nations sending teams for the first time to the 12th set of Jewish Olympic Games is Gilbral- tar and that Zaire, which last year restored diploma- tic ties with Israel was a strong possibility. There is also the likeli- hood that Romania will send a squad, marking the first time an East European delegation will appear at the games since World War II. The possibility of Roma- nian participation de- veloped following a meeting in Jerusalem last week be- tween Dr. Israel Peled, Maccabi World Union chairman, and Romania's Minister of Tourism and Sports Mielos Yarvislescu. Immigrants win Petluck awards New York — The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) has awarded $300 Ann Petluck Awards to three recent immigrants from the Soviet Union. The three are 12-year-old mathematics whiz Alexan- der Gorodischer of Holyoke, Mass.; Ivetta Kvitash of San Francisco, a music teacher who became an EKG tech- nician in the U.S.; and cel- list Semyon Friedman of Baltimore, who has com- pleted a Master's degree in music during his four years in the U.S.
