THE DETROIVJEWISH NEWS - Smears aimed at British Jews London (JTA) — Two at- tempts to stir up anti- Jewish feeling by the use of forgery were revealed by the Board of Deputies of British Jews. The forgeries took the form of letters purporting to come from Jewish organiza- tions and proposing retalia- tion against enemies of Is- rael and the Jewish people. One letter, under the letter-head of the British association of Jewish ex- servicemen, was posted in Frankfurt. It listed 10 pro-Arab members of parli- ament and suggested ways of combatting their activi- ties. The other letter, posted in Austria, purported to come from the organization for anti-Arab outrages in the West Bank. It contained threats of violence against enemies of Israel. Not only are the two documents forgeries but they are the work of the same person. They contain identical grammatical er- rors, which point to their having been ineptly trans- lated from German. Dr. Jacob Gewirtz, the Board of Deputies executive director, said the letters seemed designed to weaken the links between the Labor Zionist Movement and the British Labor Party. Meanwhile, the world's most notorious anti-Jewish forgery has once again raised its head in Britain. The Iranian Embassy in London marked the fifth anniversary of the over- throw of the Shah by sum- marizing in an English magazine the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. In a magazine, called IMAM, the Iranians de- scribe Zionism as "an enemy to humanity" and assert that the Protocols "are being adhered to word by word by the Jewish- influenced Western gov- ernments." Greville Janner, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, has sent a copy of the Ira- nian publication to British Foreign Secretary Sir Geof- frey Howe and requested prompt action to stop the Iranian Embassy from propagating race hatred lit- erature. Talks planned at Somerset The Center for New Thinking will present a lec- ture on "Discovering Our Own Power" at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Somerset Mall auditorium.
