Cong. B'nai Moshe will
pay tribute to Cantor Louis
Klein "for 25 years of serv-
ice and dedication" at a tes-
timonial dinner at 6:30 p.m.
May 6 at the synagogue.
Cocktails will be served at
5:30 p.m.
The previous morning's
Shabbat services will also
be the occasion to honor
Cantor Klein. The service
will be choral, with the par-
ticipation of the men's choir,
under the direction of
Daniel Braude.
Born in Romania, Cantor
Klein attended various
yeshivot in Europe. He
studied music at the Con-
servatorium in Ostend,
Belgium, and was
graduated from Guildhall
School of Music in London,
England, where he was in-
structed by Maestro Di-
Veroli.
He studied hazzanut with
Prof. Isaac Heilman and
Cantor B. Rabinowitz, but
was inspired by his father
who was a baal tefila and
imparted to him the various
traditional liturgical modes
as a young boy.
Cantor Klein received an
honorary fellowship award
from the Cantors Institute
of the Jewish Theological
Seminary and was honored
by State of Israel Bonds. He
is a member of the board of
the Zionist Organization of
America — Detroit District
and is involved in numerous
organizations including the

B'rith; Oak Park Masonic
Lodge, for which he is a sol-
oist and member of the

Community Council of De-
troit; and the Magen David
Adorn.
Cantor Klein has pub-
lished a book, "Songs of
Prayer," incorporating all
the liturgy sung in the
synagogue. He is working
on another book of cantorial
music.
Cantor Klein is a member
of the Cantors Assembly of
America and he held the
office of treasurer. He
served as chairman of the
Tri-State Region Cantors
Assembly and is a member
of its national executive
committee. He served as
past president of the Detroit
Cantors Council.
Cantor Klein formed and
trained the B'nai Moshe

the men's choir and the
