Memorial to Morris Nobel Sunday at main UHS building

A special program in
memory of Morris Nobel,
Yiddishist, Hebraist and
educator will take place on
Sunday at 4 p.m. in the
LaMed Auditorium of the
main United Hebrew
Schools building.
Mr. Nobel was affiliated
with the United Hebrew
Schools and the Midrasha,
College of Jewish Studies,
for over 35 years.
Alex Roberg is chairman
of the planning committee
which includes: Renah Bar-
denstein, Sarah Bell, Mr.

and Mrs. Morris (Sarah)
Friedman, Norma Gorosh,
Rose Kaye, Nira Lev, Ann
Mickel, Helen Radin, use
Roberg, Dr. and Mrs. Nor-
val (Judith) Slobin, Wolfe
Snyder, Dr. Gerald A. Tel-
ler, Emily Tukel, Dr. Max
Weine, Renee Wohl and
Rabbi Abraham Zentman.
The afternoon program
will include presentations
in English, Hebrew and
Yiddish. Addresses will be
delivered by Dr. Teller,
UHS superintendent; Ms.
Gorosh, former student of

Pesach workshop for deaf
planned at United Hebrew

Rabbi David Rabinowitz
will conduct a special pre-
Passover workshop for the
hearing impaired on Sun-
day at 1 p.m. in room 9-10 of
the main United Hebrew
Schools building. The work-
shop will deal with prepar-
ing for Passover and its
symbols.
Rabbi Rabinowitz is
available for consultation
and study sessions for those
who are hearing impaired.
His phone number is 968-
1065 (voice) and 398-2711
(TTY). Mrs. Beverly Mitch-
ell is adviser to the hearing
impaired program.
The pre-Passover work-
shop for the hearing im-
paired is part of the UHS
special education program
sponsored by the Shulevitz
Foundation and
memorializes - Richard
David Mitchell. The pro-
gram operates in coopera-
tion with Temple Beth El.
The UHS is celebrating
its 18th year of service to
the hearing impaired. Plans
are for the Midrasha Col-
lege of Jewish Studies to ex-
pand the hearing impaired
program to include adults.
Both the UHS and Mid-
rasha will be taught by
Rabbi Rabinowitz and di-
rected by Mrs. Mitchell.
Rabbi Rabinowitz is the
first rabbi for the deaf in the
United States and abroad.
He was ordained at Mesivta
Chaim Berlin Rabbinical
Yeshiva. Deaf himself,
Rabbi Rabinowitz has lec-
tured, been a clergyman for

Midrasha hosts
choreographer

The Midrasha College of
Jewish Studies will present
Harriet Berg in its third
program of the 1983 series,
The Jewish Contribution to
the Performing Arts, at
noon Wednesday in the
LaMed Auditorium of the
main United Hebrew
Schools building.
Ms. Berg, choreographer,
teacher and dancer, will
speak on "The Jewish
People and the Dance" and a
performance by a dance
group will follow her pre-
sentation. Ms. Berg is artis-
tic director of the Jewish
Community Center and
founder of the Festival Dan-
cers.
Luncheon will be served.

davened at Shabbat and

Judaism. He is affiliated
with Zionist hearing im-
pai;ed organizations and

Mrs. Mitchell has been
the adviser and coordinator
for 20 years for a variety of
local and national organiza-
tions for Jewish and hear-
ing impaired activities and
programs. Some of these
projects include collaborat-
ing and initiating with her
late husband for special
education for the hearing
impaired at the UHS and
summer education for the
deaf in Oakland County in
the 1960s, national televi-
sion closed captions for the
hearing impaired; Hearing
Integration Day; Project
TALK; and is affiliated with
religious and Zionist organ-
izations.

clude writings of and about
Mr. Nobel. The committee
preparing the book consists
of Rabbi Weine, Ms. Lev and
Teller. A special fund in
memory of Mr. Nobel has
been established for the
publication of the book.
