Israeli Olympic delegation to include 25 athletes Tel Aviv (JTA) — There will be at least 25 men and women represent- ing Israel when more than 10,000 athletes from throughout the world arrive in Los Angeles in July for the 1984 Olympic Games, according to Yitzhak Ofek, president of the Israel Olympic Committee. While the list is not final, as Israel continues to hold tryouts through May, Ofek was optimistic that Israel's team will fare well in the summer games. In addition to the 25 athletes already slated for travel to Los Angeles, Is- rael's basketball team, if it plays well in the European Challenge tournament in Paris, would gain a bid to the Olympic Games. Israel is certain to com- pete in at least nine differ- ent events. Shimon Brook- man and Eitan Friedlander are believed to have the best chances for securing an National Holocaust commemoration Washington — The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Coun- cil will sponsor "Days of Remembrance" April 29-30. Holocaust memorial events will include an eve- ning of commemoration through the performing arts at the Kennedy Center on April 29, and a national commemoration ceremony at the Capitol on April 30. Participating April 29 will be Elie Wiesel, Helen Hayes, Lorne Greene, James Earl Jones, Michael Moriarty, Joseph Wiseman, Michael York, Orson Wel- les, Meg Tilley, Ted Koppel, Tom Brokaw, Sherrill Milnes, the Howard Uni- versity Choir, the American Symphony Orchestra, Is- raeli pianist Ilana Vered and the , Giora Feidman Trio. Speakers April 30 will in- clude Wiesel, Vice President George Bush and House Speaker Tip O'Neil. Olympic medal when they compete in the 470 sailing event. Prof finds new Diabetes treatment Jerusalem — The poten- tial benefits for diabetes patients of an exotic spice commonly used by Yemi- nite Jews are being re- searched by a Hebrew Uni- versity professor. Dr. Zecharia Madar, a lecturer at the university's Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot, has found that by adding a small amount of the spice Fenugreek to the diets of diabetic rats, it is possible to significantly re- duce the level of glucose in their bloodstreams. The next step, according to Dr. Madar, is to under- take tests along these lines with a group of Israeli diabetics. The tests have been approved by the local Helsinki committee on re- search involving humans. New fund at Hebrew U. Jerusalem — The Omar Oscar Marcus Fund for Understanding and Peace Between Arabs and Jews has been established at the Harry S. Trurrian Research Institute for the Advance- ment of Peace at Hebrew University. The fund, named for German photojournalist Omar Marcus, will be used to sponsor a variety of uni- versity activities.
