8 Friday, March 30, 1984 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Israeli infant in U.S. seeks liver donor New York (JTA) — Chaya Cohen, 19 months old, of Natanya, has cancer of the liver and the baby's parents, Israel and Nurit Cohen, are appealing for help in getting a suitable liver donor, according to Rabbi Chaim Zelikovitz of Long Beach, N.Y. Rabbi Zelikovitz is one of a number of rabbis and doc- tors in the New York met- ropolitan area who have es- tablished the Baby Chaya Fund to defray costs for the operation and to find a suit- able donor. Liver trans- plants are not done in Is- . rael. The baby and her father arrived in New York last weekend and are staying at the home of Rabbi Zelikovitz. Her mother was scheduled to arrive in New York this week. They will then fly to the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis for an opera- tion. Chaya was referred by Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem after all at- tempts at treatment in Is- rael were unsuccessful and no suitable donor could be found, Zelikovitz said. GORNBEIN JEWELERS Fidelity Bank Bldg. 24901 Northwestern Highway Southfield, MI 48075 357-1056 Ilk PRUDENTIAL 1111TOWN CENTER 10 MILE RD Tel Aviv (JTA) — Histad- rut has predicted that 120,000 Israelis- — nine percent of the country's 1.3 million-member work force, will be unemployed by the end of this year. The Man- ufacturers Association however, rejected the fore- cast. A spokesman for the industrialists said projected unemployment figures were much lower and that there is actually a shortage of labor in some industries. According to Gideon Ben-Israel, head of Histad- rut's Organization Depart- ment, about 30,000 young people who enter the work force each year may not be able to find jobs. The His- tadrut official spoke in ad- vance of a three-day inter- national seminar on labor relations and unemploy- ment which opened at Tel Aviv University this week. Aid boost for Israel Washington (JTA) — Sena Charles Percy (R-I11.) chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Commit- tee, has announced that he will introduce a resolution to increase the economic aid to Israel in 1985 to $1.1 bil- lion, $350 million more than the Reagan Adminis- tration has proposed. The House Foreign Af- fairs Committee had earlier approved this increase. All the economic aid would be in the form 'of a grant, as would be the $1.4 billion Is- rael is to receive in military aid. Sen. Rudy Boshwitz (R. Minn.) said Percy's support improves the chances that Congress will adopt the appropriation. SI"
