"God as a Jewish- Mother" will be the topic of a talk by Dr. Louis Nemser at 8:15 p.m. April 20. Israeli entertainers appear at Campaign closing event Israeli concert and televi- sion stars Albrecht and Zfira will entertain at the closing of the 1984 Allied Jewish Campaign at 8 p.m. April 12 at Adat Shalom Synagogue. With many persons still to contact for a pledge before the Campaign's closing, volunteers will take part in a telethon between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. April 8 at the main United Hebrew Schools. Paul Feinberg and Harriet Dunsky, chairmen of the 1984 Super Sunday, will oversee this telethon as well. - The Campaign celebra- tion will feature the final reports of division chairmen as well as the music and multi-lingual songs of Av- raham Albrecht and Av- shalom Zfira. Tickets, which include a champagne reception, are available at a nominal charge from the Jewish Welfare Federation. For information, call Bar- bara Satinsky, 965-3939. * * * Singles mission to go to Israel Men and women age 22 to 40 are invited to join a na- tional singles mission to Is- rael this summer. Mission dates are July 22 to Aug. 1. The mission is sponsored by the United Jewish Ap- peal. Participants will attend a series of orientation ses- sions to learn more about Is- rael's history, the current Middle East situation and the role of the UJA. The mission itinerary will include visits to Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Jaffa and Project Renewal neighborhoods. At 5 p.m. Sunday, the Beth Shalom Reunion Dinner will be held. The first Seder will take place April 16 at 7 p.m. The sec- ond Seder will take place April 17 at 7 p.m. Conserva- tive Passover services will be held April 17, 18, 23 and 24 at 10 a.m. A student retreat en- titled, "The Great Escape," will take place April 27 and 28 at Camp Tamarack. Stu- dents from Wayne State and Oakland Universities will participate. A Holocaust memorial will be held April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Michi- gan State University Union Ballroom. Guest speaker, Sister Carol Rittner, will give a talk entitled, "The Righteous Gentiles and the Holocaust." In addition, two non-Jews from the Detroit area will be honored for their rescue efforts during the Holocaust. A faculty luncheon will be held on April 10 at 12:15 p.m. and an Israel Program Desk will be set up in the MSU Union Lobby on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hillel classes will resume the week of April 9. Among the classes to be offered are: three levels of beginning Hebrew, "The Jewish Life Cycle, Torah via Talmud" with Rabbi Avraham Jacobovitz, Mishnah and bar/bat mitzvah tutoring. Michigan Jewish Network sets statewide conference Plans for a statewide con- ference for Jewish commu- nity relations leadership are being coordinated by the Michigan Jewish Network steering committee. Set for June 10 at Temple Emanuel in Grand Rapids, the con- ference will be open to pre- registered representatives from Detroit and out-state communities. Judge John H. Shepherd has been appointed by Jewish Community Council President David Lebenbom as the network representa- tive from metropolitan De- troit. Natalie Pelavin of Flint is acting network chairman. As part of its commitment to promote communications between communities, the Michigan Jewish Network will co-sponsor a statewide Holocaust Commemoration with Gov. James Blanchard on May 2 at noon on the steps of the state capitol building in Lansing. Speak- ers from member com- munities are being ar- ranged through the net- work. Other network steering committee members are: Allan Falk of Lansing and Robert Silver of Ann Arbor. Also represented in the network are Traverse City, Midland and Grand Rapids. Staff support is provided by Stephanie J. Gurwitz of the Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan De- troit. Yaakov Morris, the Irish-born Minister for Pub- lic Relations at the Israel Embassy in London, will be in Detroit Sunday and Monday for the Israel Bond Organization's "Operation B'nai Ami." Morris is one of 25 Israeli emissaries visiting- - the United States this month for the Israel Bonds project, which is designed to in- crease the number of synagogues participating in 1984/5745 High Holy Day Bond appeals. The group in- cludes rabbis, authors, dip- lomatic representatives, academicians and officers from the Israel Defense Forces. Meanwhile in New York, the Metropolitan Opera Association and Israel Bonds have launched a joint endowment fund program with a goal of $20 million in contributions.
