Attorney Samuel Leib Dies,
leader in B'nai B'rith ranks

For more than 30 years,
Samuel W. Leib had leading
Michigan roles in the B'nai
B'rith movement.
He rose from the ranks
and the presidency of
Pisgah Lodge to head the
Michigan B'nai B'rith
ranks, and then into na-
tional leadership.
In his many roles, he ad-
vanced the cause of B'nai
B'rith Youth and the Anti-
Defamation League.
Mr. Lieb, an attorney and
founding partner of Leib
and Leib in Detroit, died
March 24 at age 80.
Born in Chicago, Ill., Mr.
Leib lived most of his life in
Detroit. He was a resident of
West Palm Beach, Fla., at
the time of his death.
He was graduated from
the University of Michigan
, Law School in 1929. He was
chairman for five years dur-
ing World War II of the
Wayne County War Price
and Rationing Board. In
1957, the mayor and the De-
troit City Council issued a
testimonial resolution bes-
towing upon him the title
"Good Citizen of Detroit."
He was a past president of
the B'nai B'rith District
Grand Lodge No. 6.
He was a member of the
board of governors of the
Jewish Welfare Federation,
trustee and member of the
executive committee of Bel-
lefaire Home for Emotion-
ally Disturbed Children in
Cleveland, Ohio.
Mr. Leib was the first
president of the former
Town and Country Club,
and 32nd degree Mason and
a member of Perfection
Lodge of the Masons.

Ben Casey, died in Beverly
Hills, Calif., at age 93.

Shlomo Shumani, one of
Israel's most distinguished
librarians and bibliog-
raphers, died in Jeruslaem
at age 87. Mr. Shumani,
who also was an author and
educator, served for 40
years, until 1961, on the
staff of the Jewish National
and University Library at
the Hebrew University of
Jerusalem.

Mr. Leib was a founding
member of Adat Shalom
Synagogue and the Golden
Lakes Temple of West Palm
Beach.
He leaves his wife, Lois;
two sons, Jeffrey and Roger
of Los Angeles, Calif.; three
brothers, Dr. George, Dr.
Sidney and Meyer; two sis-
ters, Mrs. Charles (Tillie)
Weiner and Mrs. Jack
(Carolyn) Kramer; and five
grandchildren.

Samuel Ginsburg

Samuel Max Ginsburg, a
tax revenue agent for the
Internal Revenue Service,
died March 28 at age 58.
Born in Detroit, Mr.
Ginsburg attended the
School of Business at
Wayne State University
and Walsh College of Ac-
countancy and Business
Administration. He was
employed with the IRS for
36 years.
He was a member of
Young Israel of Oak-Woods
and was active in efforts on
behalf of Akiva Hebrew Day
School.
Mr. Ginsburg was a
World War II veteran and a
sergeant in the Signal
Corps of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife,
Shirley; a son, Howard I. of
New York; two daughters,
Janet and Rochelle; his
mother, Theresa Ginsburg;
a brother, Jack; and a sister,
Mrs. Sam (Sylvia) Fierer of
Deerfield Beach, Fla.
