trustee emeritus for the
Clover Hill Park Cemetery,
past master of Perfection
Lodge of the Masons, and
a 33rd degree Mason
Mr. Maddin held mem-
bership at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek. He was several times
associate chairman of the
Trades and Professional di-
vision of the Allied Jewish
Campaign.
He was a former director
of the Detroit Service
Group.
He leaves his wife,
Esther; two sons, Michael
and Richard; a daughter,
Mrs. Lance (Rosalyn) Mer-
mell; 11 grandchildren.

Philip and Lester, both of
New York; two sisters, Mrs.
Sylvia Goldberg of the
Bronx, N.Y., and Mrs. Jack
(Molly) Gubkin of Cleve-
land Heights, Ohio; and 10
grandchildren.

An important chapter of
Detroit Jewish educational
history is recalled in the
tributes that were paid this
week to Rose Goodman, who
died March 18 at age 88.
A niece of one of Ameri-
can Jewry's most distin-
guished Orthodox leaders,
the late Rabbi Aaron M.
Ashinsky, and daughter of
Louis Ashinsky, a pioneer
Detroit educator, Mrs.
Goodman gained recogni-
tion in her right as a close
associate with her husband,
Harold, in advancing the
cause of the Detroit Chapter
of the American Society for
Technion.
Mrs. Goodman was
actively involved in Hadas-
sah, the National Council of
Jewish Women, the Jewish
Home for the Aged, Ameri-
can Jewish Congress and
Pioneer Women/ Naamat.
She is survived by her
husband, Harold; two
daughters, Mrs. Leonard
(Violet) Soltar and Mrs. Al-
bert (Lenore) Miller; two
brothers, Harold Ash and
Leo Ash; grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.

Celia Stern, a teacher and
administrator in the Detroit
Public Schools for 40 years,
died March 18 in Sarasota,
Fla. She was 73.
Born in New York, Miss
Stern was a consultant to
the Professional Growth
Center of the Detroit Board
of Education. She was prin-
cipal of the Akiva Hebrew
Day School for three years.
Miss Stern was an organizer
of the Detroit Federation of
Teachers and a member of
the organization of school
administrators and super-
visors. She also was a
lifetime_ member of Hadas-
sah.
She is survived by three
brothers, Albert of
Sarasota, Leo and Kenneth;
two sisters, Mrs. Ann
Jacobs and Mrs. Carl (He-
len) Leibowitz; nieces,
nephews, grandnieces and
grandnephews.

Milton M. Maddin, an at-
torney, died March 20 at age
82.
Born in San Francisco,
Calif., Mr. Maddin was an
attorney with the firm of
Maddin, Weiner, Hauser,
Wartell and Roth in South-
field. He was graduated
from the University of
Michigan Law School in
1925.
Mr. Maddin was a
member of the Scabbard
and Blade Society at U-M.
He was past president of
the Standard Club of De-
