Israel COL
Rises again

Tel Aviv (JTA) — The
cost-of-living index rose by
12 percent in February, the
Central Bureau of Statistics
reported last week. It was
the highest increase ever
registered for that month
and double the rise in Feb-
ruary 1893.
While the February in-
crease was well below the
14.5 percent registered in
January, the combined fig-
ures amount to a 28.7 per-
cent rise in prices in the first
two months of the year for
an annual inflation rate of
285 percent.
Analysts at the Central
Bureau said prices have
gone up by seven percent in
the first two weeks of
March, indicating that this
month's inflation will be
higher than last month's.
The figures for March will
be released on April 15.
